In this video a long needle is used. For periodontal procedures, we use 3/4 carp of lidocaine for this block and use last 1/4 carp for the long buccal injection.

I always wished in hygiene school I could just see someone scale start to finish so here it is.
NOTES
*We wanted to keep the video short for viewing purposes feel free to take a little longer. The average time to scale a patients teeth is 20 mins. therefore some patients will take a little more time and some a little less. 
*I had an instructor once tell me, "take no more than 5 proficient strokes per surface." 
*Proficient means add lateral pressure, adapt for comfort, remove the calc/biofilm, and DON'T skip a surface.
*The patient in this video had very very light calculus based on the fact that she had already been the patient for other videos.
*With this in mind we hope you take away something helpful from the video even if you do it a little bit different.

If the dentist is doing a filling on any maxillary teeth all you have to do is a local infiltration above the specific tooth to get it numb. Here is how to do it, demonstrated on #8.

How to give a nasopalatine injection. It will anesthetize the palatal tissues of the six anterior teeth.

There are times when I have given an ASA, and a local infiltration and the one area is still painful to the patient. In this case I will give a PDL injection right in the area that the patient is feeling the instrumentation. I use this as a last resort if nothing else has worked.

If you have given a right  IA and the patient is feeling it on #25 giving a local injection at the apex of #25 is one of the options to prevent you from having to give an IA on the opposite side.
