I always wished in hygiene school I could just see someone scale start to finish so here it is.

*We wanted to keep the video short for viewing purposes feel free to take a little longer. The average time to scale a patients teeth is 20 mins. therefore some patients will take a little more time and some a little less. 
*I had an instructor once tell me, "take no more than 5 proficient strokes per surface." 
*Proficient means add lateral pressure, adapt for comfort, remove the calc/biofilm, and DON'T skip a surface.
*The patient in this video had very very light calculus based on the fact that she had already been the patient for other videos.
*With this in mind we hope you take away something helpful from the video even if you do it a little bit different.

If the dentist is doing a filling on any maxillary teeth all you have to do is a local infiltration above the specific tooth to get it numb. Here is how to do it, demonstrated on #8.

There are times when I have given an ASA, and a local infiltration and the one area is still painful to the patient. In this case I will give a PDL injection right in the area that the patient is feeling the instrumentation. I use this as a last resort if nothing else has worked.

Besides facilitating easier replacement of the flap, tori removal in this case, may facilitate more predictable healing because of the removal of an osseous crater that was created during the initial ostectomy.

Literature suggest protruding upper incisors should be retracted as soon as possible to avoid a greater risk of trauma. In this orthodontic lecture we will see how a dental functional appliance, the twin block, can retract the upper incisors while activating the mandible. In orthodontic school, after orthodontic diagnosis, I was taught to use two different appliances to do that, and then dental braces. But after seeing how effecting that is, I use that.
